About Lloyd George...

• Lloyd George was against Britain entering a war and threatened to resign from his job as Chancellor, but Asquith persuaded him to stay.
• In 1915 he became Minister of Munitions at the time of the 'shell crisis'.
• When he became Secretary of State for War in 1916 he criticised Asquith's leadership and replaced him when he resigned in December.
• He clashed with military and naval leaders over the huge loss of troops, but was thought of as a good leader who helped keep public morale high at times of great crisis.
• After the war he took part in the Paris Peace Conference, out of which came the Treaty of Versailles.
