Lead Mechanical Engineer

Overview of PositionIMDEX is seeking a qualified Product Design Engineer to provide engineering expertise in the designing of world-class products. The successful candidate will collaborate with global Product Management, Manufacturing and Quality teams to overcome challenges of installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of IoT enabled tools and instruments, and contribute to the design and development of industry leading products. You will enjoy applying theory and analytical techniques to ensure strong focus on design for IMDEX’s product portfolio and new product development.

The OpportunityThis is an outstanding opportunity for qualified Engineers to provide mechanical and product design expertise in the development of IMDEX’s world-class products both new and existing.

Our instrumentation products typically consist of highly sensitive electronics and scientific sensors encased in very robust machined chassis for use in the field by the geoscience and mining sectors to collect downhole drilling and core orientation data.

In this role you will collaborate with global Product Management, Manufacturing and Quality teams to overcome challenges of installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of IMDEX’s range of tools and instruments and contribute to the design and development of industry leading products.

You will enjoy applying theory and analytical techniques to ensure strong focus on design for IMDEX’s product portfolio and new product development.

Additional duties include:Mechanical designs for products manufactured and maintained by IMDEXManagement of existing IMDEX tool and products through engineering change process within a structured New Product Introduction (NPI) delivery framework Preparation of documentation for patent managementQA/QC instructions/requests are actioned and compliant.

You will have strong prioritization skills and enjoy working across multiple projects and working to tight deadlines with competing demands. High level written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Additional requirements include:Recognized degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience5+ years of experience in a similar positionProficient in the use of Solidworks 3D CAD Software including PDM will be strongly regarded Candidates with the ability to cross-over from Solid Edge or Inventor consideredExperience with high performance tools and assemblies incorporating electronics that operating in punishing environments (down hole drilling / Drill and Blast)Experience in the manufacture of product utilizing different manufacturing processes including machined, cast, die cast and injection moulded.
