Web Editor (Remote)

Ledgent Technology is currently in search of an experienced Web Editor for a fully remote contract role. This position entails a significant amount of responsibility, including posting stories to the web through a Content Management System (CMS). Tasks involve copy editing, selecting and editing photos, writing captions, crafting one-paragraph summaries for website promotion, and determining/entering metadata. The role also involves collaboration with reporters ranging from senior to junior levels, potentially requiring the restructuring, rewriting, or recasting of stories to enhance the focus, nuance, word choice, background information, and accuracy.

The Web Editor will work under the guidance of senior editorial staff, contributing to the generation of story ideas and maintaining a focus on various news sectors including politics, national news, health, financial, and world news.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:Generate and approve engaging story ideas from both staff and freelancers. Craft accurate, strong, and engaging headlines and copy. Occasionally engage in reporting duties. Collaborate closely with the social media team to enhance story visibility and engagement. Rapidly write and report on breaking news and assign stories to appropriate staff members. Position Requirements:A Bachelor's Degree is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience as an editor, preferably within online or digital publications. Proficiency in document editing software, such as Microsoft Word. The ability to efficiently manage a high-paced workflow and track multiple ongoing projects. Experience with or the capacity to quickly learn online CMS platforms. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A good understanding of traffic analytics tools and strategies. Strong multitasking skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
