Engineering Estimator

Summary: The Company is a complex sheet metal fabrication manufacturer supporting aerospace, semiconductor, automotive, and other industries. We are seeking an Engineering Estimator to join our team. This candidate must have the ability to develop realistic and timely quotes using factory and supplier inputs to win new business. This is a fast-paced dynamic environment in a facility that is experiencing significant growth. The goal of the Engineering Estimator is to determine the best manufacturing method to maximize profit and minimize scrap in the customer provided quote. Applicants should be flexible, display a willingness to adapt to a changing work scope and open to assuming various tasks from the menial to the complex. This position will require project management skills to keep on task and manage multiple inputs on a consistent basis. Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following; other duties may be assigned. Receive and review Request for Quotes or Request for Proposals. Use drawings, MBD (Model Based Definition) data, parts lists and related engineering documentation from customers to develop a Bill of Materials (BOM) and engineering/manufacturing router based on specifications (specs) and parts listings. Create data packs to be sent to purchasing and/or suppliers to obtain material, standards, process, and manufacturing costs. On receipt of supplier quotations, evaluates supplier’s prices. Create estimated manufacturing hours for each component determined to be manufactured in-house, including non-recurring costs, if applicable. Work with the tooling department to estimate tooling required and cost to manufacture said tooling. Computes lead time based on complexity, availability of material, and current production load. Works with customers to provide the most cost effective estimate and justify pricing. Analyzes awarded business to determine profitability of projects. Maintains/updates estimates module in ERP system. Summarize component quote costs (i.e. materials, labor, and rates) into the top-level ordered part to produce the overall quote cost. Specifies required tooling and programming costs and expected scrap margin rates for each bid. Attend customer calls and visits as needed. Education and Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education - College degree or equivalent experience required. Minimum of 5 years work experience in cost engineering / estimating or manufacturing engineering in an aerospace contract manufacturing environment. Technical sales experience preferred. Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including but not limited to machining (CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, & CNC EDM), welding, fabricating, and sheet metal forming. Strong working knowledge of B/Ps, GD&T, industry and customer specifications. Experienced in Bill of Materials (BOM). Working knowledge of Solidworks, AutoCAD, etc. Detail oriented with a priority of accuracy. Good organization skills with a pro-active attitude. Excellent knowledge of Excel, Outlook and Word. Knowledge of MRP and experience with ERP systems.
