Job Summary

A Chemist is needed for a company that manufactures, sells, and markets non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups in the Atlanta, GA area. The role involves conducting complex chemical analysis, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with quality standards, developing and validating laboratory test methods, and performing data audits to ensure accuracy and reliability of analytical results.

Responsibilities

• Conduct complex chemical analysis on various substances including raw ingredients, intermediates, beverage parts, final products, auxiliary materials, and water.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation by troubleshooting, conducting preventative maintenance, calibrating, and repairing as necessary.
• Perform inspections of the laboratory or laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with internal (e.g., The company Quality System) or external certification requirements, correcting or eliminating process-related non-conformance items.
• Dispose of expired retained samples and chemicals according to schedules and expiration dates to maintain cleanliness and safety in the lab area.
• Develop or validate laboratory test methods or equipment (including sampling, monitoring, and analytical procedures) to ensure the reliability and accuracy of analytical results, potentially including capability studies.
• Perform data audits to ensure the accuracy of data and analytical processes, which may involve database queries, statistical process control, or correlation studies.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience Advanced Analytical Chemistry skills, including expertise in integrating analytical chemistry techniques (e.g., GC, GC/MS, and MS) and applying them to various problems. General knowledge of the organic chemistry of essential oils and other flavor compounds relevant to Company products. Familiarity with data in the Formula Management System, including reasonable value ranges, calculations origin, and the ability to recognize inconsistencies. General knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of inorganic substances needed to understand inorganic ingredients (e.g., acidulants, oxygen, water buffers) used in Company products and in stability research on ingredients.
