Job Title: Material Engineer Location: Chillicothe IL Duration: 24 Months Contract (Possible of Extension) Pay Rate: $28-33/hr.
The main function of a research engineer is to research and investigate the design, functionality and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes. A typical research engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Position’s Contributions to Work Group:
Individual will work under the direction of an experienced non-metallic engineer to collaborate with design teams and manufacturing engineers in the development of new designs and troubleshooting existing designs and processes. Assist engineers in understanding trade-offs when considering various non-metallic materials for designs. Job involves validation of materials and processes for new applications, writing and revising material specifications, and failure analysis.
Typical task breakdown:Reviewing material specifications (mostly polymers and adhesives)Consulting with design engineers to determine the suitability of materials for applications. Preparing summary reportsAttending technical meetingsLab testing as needed. Comparing/contrasting material properties
Education & Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, plastics technology/engineering, materials science, or related field
Technical Skills Proficiency with computer, especially with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
(Desired) 1-3 years of experience in plastic and/or adhesive material selection, manufacturing, and/or designAbility to learn basic print reading and data analysis tools
Soft SkillsGood organizational skills, ability to work independently, and good oral and written communication skillsWillingness and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts.
